Aby Escape

Verdict: Release date: Genre: Developer: Publisher: Price: |
Being an ardent fan of runners on iOS and seeing that this was a BulkyPix release, I was almost instantly drawn to Aby Escape. But at the same time, after having seen its previews, I couldn’t help but wonder that with so many similar games on the app store (and some of them being super popular too <cough><cough>temple run<cough>), can ‘Aby Escape’ offer anything new in terms of core gameplay? Sadly enough the answer was NO! Not really…
Aby Escape Game Review
Let me try and make myself eminently clear. It is an inescapable fact that we tend to see so many imitations of games or core gameplay concepts that become super successful on the App Store. The moment a game starts to show even distant and inconsequential similarities to previously released and globally well accepted games, people just start flaming and detesting it even without checking to see if the game has anything unique to offer.

Although ‘Aby Escape’ bears striking resemblance to ‘Temple Run’ and I’m not a fan of ideas that are not completely original, I still wanted to keep my prejudices aside and review this game without my rose-tinted glasses. And this was solely because I’m also a believer of the fact that we live in a free world and you should always be given a chance to improve or better someone else’s idea.
The gameplay as such is simple and easy to grasp. Aby is on the run and he is trying to escape from his assailants who take different forms in different levels. You are to help him in his escape by guiding him through a series of obstacles that require you to make him jump, swerve and slide. All this has to be done while making sure that Aby keeps collecting all the essentials he needs on the go like the ‘Shoes’ and the ‘Coins’. Do not forget to grab the ‘Pinata’ which is the jackpot that gives you surprising gifts and coins when you unlock it at the end of each level.

And now let’s throw some light on the game content which is presented in the form of now ubiquitous “in-app purchases”. The game has 30 playable levels in the story mode which unlocks only after you’ve either earned or bought 7500 coins. The unlimited mode offers 50 challenges in three unlockable levels and also has promises of more levels from the developers in the future. The menu has a ‘Free Coins’ section that lets you earn 200 coins if you agree to watch a short advertisement video. There is also a store where you can purchase ‘power ups’, ‘extras’ and other cool stuff.
I really wanted to give this game a very high rating because of the extremely enjoyable and addictive gaming experience but I’m a little disappointed with all the extras that BulkyPix have addded with just the commercial interest in mind. Don’t go by its price tag on the app store, only give it a shot if you are prepared to spend a few dollars on IAP’s and be presented with annoying ads! The game is available for downloads on the app store.
